Situation in the region:
According to the investigations hold by Karitas of the Sambir-Drohobych Diocese UGCC, there are more than 600 children living in a very difficult social situation. They live in multichildren, poor or pathological families, the main problem in which is alcohol and drugs. Parents do not take care of them correctly. Children are hungry and dirty, have pediculosis and various diseases. Schools perform their functions only formally solving no problems of those children and even not trying to solve them. Bureaucracy rules in the local social services, they do not have specialized personnel and costs to provide the necessary help for those children.
Taking into account everything that has been said, we may see that these children are living behind the edge of misery, have bad marks at school or miss classes, are ill, socially degrading and have conflicts with law.
Children’s Social Center
Aim: Improve social and psychological condition of the children from the pathological families in Drohobych.
Characterization of the people, with whom we are working in this field:
We take care of 25 children from the poor pathological families, which haven’t received social minimum from their conservators and whose development is not correct. These are the boys and girls in the age from 9 till 13.
Types of support:
• Preparation and conducting of the daily classes for children, at that time they do their homework, study and participate in educational games.
• Warm meals
• Taking care of the children health condition, personal hygiene and results of the school studies.
• Organization of excursions for children.
• Daily classes from 14:00 till 18:00, on Saturday 10:00 – 14:00
• Result of our work is the declension of the children’s aggression level, teaching them to work in groups, training their skills to keep personal hygiene, cultural behavior, responsibility, sincerity and love.
Needs:
• Equipment suitable for work with children (tables, chairs, bookcases, sofas, carpets etc)
• Costs for purchase of products and preparation
• Costs for purchase of chancellery, means for children’s personal hygiene
• Costs for organizing of excursions and free time of children
• Search for volunteers
Children summer and winter camps
Aim: Improvement of the social and psychological situation of the children from the pathological families with the help of the organization of their summer and winter leisure (children camps in Carpathian mountains and Poland).
Characterization of the people, with whom we are working in this field:
Children from the poor, multichildren and pathological families, which haven’t received from their conservators the social minimum and also children with the incorrect development. These are the children in the age from 9 till 16 years.
Kinds of the provided support:
• Trips to the children camps in Poland and the Carpathian mountains
• Assistance in the production of the necessary documentation
• Children are taken into custody in the camps
Needs:
• Governmental assistance in the preparation of the documentation
• Search of the qualified volunteers to be granted custody of the children in the camps.
• Providing of the necessary equipment for the integration-recreational center for children and youth in village Dovge Girske in Drohobych region of Lviv oblast
• Costs to organize camps
• Search of the partners to put the project into life
